The design battle of two kings
Samsung Galaxy S8, the hottest smartphone of the year is ready to get in your hands, but wait we have a surprise too. Samsung Galaxy S8 has a close brother that comes with a Snapdragon 835 and packs a higher RAM of 6GB. Yes, you might have guessed correctly, I am talking about the newly launched Xiaomi Mi6. A powerful feature rich flagship by Xiaomi that is ready to take on the bigger brothers like the Samsung and LG. Though Xiaomi was one of the first makes who brought the minimalist bezels with MiX, Mi6 has drifted away from the bezel less display craze.
Although Mi 6 has a 1080p panel that Xiaomi says has brightest colour and has a decent pixel density of 428ppi. Xiaomi has also said in it launch event that this screen can take care of your eye without the annoying yellow tint that most devices use today to filter blue lights. They quoted that the screen can go dim up to just 1 nits for your night time comfortable usage of the device. Apart from the screen, the device is sure to set its own standards with it “4-sided-curved-glass” design that gives the device a very rounded look. It is to help users grip the device more securely than the edgy Galaxy S8.
Xiaomi seems taking away the flagship killer crown
In addition to this, it surpasses the most awaited phone of the year, Samsung Galaxy S8 owing to its higher RAM capacity of 6GB compared to 4GB of the former. With Xiaomi’s own MiUI on top of nougat, it is expected to be optimised for the new processor for a better performance. Both the front and the back of the device have a glass surface that is enclosed on a metal frame, giving a sturdy feel to the device. The initial impression of the device is very premium and is expected to be a tough competitor when compared with other flagships on basis of price. This time Xiaomi has declared the device to be splash proof so you can have relief of accidental splashes or rain. Though the Ip certification is not revealed, it is better to have some kind of protection than nothing at all. With that said, the device has opted to ditch the 3.5mm headphone jack sadly, making it feel more iPhonish. Although not a reason to completely hate it but still they could have kept it for good.
A bigger battery with better power saving features for Xiaomi Mi6
One thing that surely gives Xiaomi Mi 6 an extra edge is its bigger 3350 mAh battery that coupled with the 1080p screen can give you extreme battery life on the SD 835. The new processor is built on the 10nm manufacturing process that makes it one of the most power efficient processor if not the most power efficient. So battery life is expected to be better than the bigger screen Galaxy S8. Supporting it is the new USB type C port that we can finally see on a Xiaomi device. Xiaomi Mi6 priced at around the $360 mark can really set its own benchmarks for flagship specs at half price.
Dual fun with Dual Cameras on Xiaomi Mi6
Xiaomi in their event stressed a lot on the dual camera setup that we see on the new flagship with one the lenses being a 12mp 27mm wide angel f/1.8 and the other a 12mp 52mm telephoto f/2.6 and 4-axis OIS. Sounds familiar? Yes, you got it right; it is same as the new iPhone 7 plus but with little twicks of its own. We don’t mind it being Appleish until the results are amazing. The front camera is an 8mp selfie shooter that is capable of 1080p video recording with Xiaomi’s beautification mode and other of its filters. The camera samples from the press event looked spectacular and it has a portrait dedicated mode for a more boquelicious portrait with blurred background. Along with that is also provides a lossless 2x zoom thanks to the second telephoto lens. Again something iPhonish but keeping in mind the price at which Xiaomi is providing these features, it will be a steal deal.
Unbelievable Price for the Specs
Lastly, the device comes in 3 variants with a constant 6GB RAM at memory variants of 64GB, 128GB and a special ceramic edition with 6GB and 128GB. The colour choices seem a little unique with a blue variant that has a golden touch to it and a very shiny silver finish edition. You also get a black that is jet black and a usual white variant, the ceramic variant will be available in black colour as of now in China.Sadly yet the launch in India and other parts are still not confirmed but if you go by a report, it says, “Mi6 is expected to come to India in May and sale will begin from June onwards”. Nothing confirmed or hinted by any Xiaomi officials though, so this may be incorrect. The pricing however in China are 2499 Yuan ($360/ Rs.23000 approx) for the 6GB/64GB variant and 2899 Yuan ($420/Rs. 27000 approx) for the 6GB/128GB and a special ceramic edition of 6GB/128GB for 2999 Yuan ($435/rs. 28000 approx) that comes with a “18-karat gold rims” on cameras.
