Announcing Samsung Galaxy A8 Plus- Worthy OnePlus 5T Competitor?

It is just first few weeks of 2018 and impressive smartphones are coming thick and fast. Now Samsung Galaxy A8 Plus is launched can it be a worthy OnePlus 5T competitor for the price it is offered?

Hey, My Awesome Buddies!

OnePlus 5 and 5T were the most popular flagship end smartphones of the year 2017. I am personally a OnePlus 5 user and truly it is an amazing device to own. On top of the end specs and impressive cameras, it still remains one of my favorite devices of 2017.

Samsung Galaxy A8 Plus frontOne thing that concerned the users of OnePlus 5 was the design, which got revamped with the OnePlus 5T. It made OnePlus 5T the best value flagship that was loved by techies around the globe. For the price, it offered the best in class performance and usability. It was truly worth your penny you would like to pay for a top of the line feature.

2017 saw many high-end phones like the Samsung S8, Note 8, iPhone X and so on. The price of the flagships skyrocketing, touching the $1000 mark in 2017, OnePlus provided a relief to the pockets. You get the best performance without any compromise for half the price of the top tier flagships.

However, Samsung has announced itself to the new year of 2018 with a very competitive looking Samsung Galaxy A8 Plus. Packed with a powerful processor, 6GB Ram, Excellent display, Glass metal design and dual front cameras. We are seeing a start of a new trend with dual front cameras this year, Honor 9 lite already has made its mark with its four cameras.

What to Look Forward

The most exciting point of the new Samsung Galaxy A8 plus is Price. Coming from Samsung we always expect a higher price as it is one of the top tier premium brands. However, the downward slope of sales graph of Samsung the year-earlier prompted a different course of action. And seeing the increasing demand for affordable flagships like the OnePlus, which became the highest selling flagship grade smartphone in 2017.

infinity display

Priced at 32990 INR/$500 makes it a very close competitor to the crowned flagship killer OnePlus 5/5T. Though the specs on the Samsung Galaxy A8 Plus are not top of the line, it packs a very capable processor. Arguably, the new Exynos Processor is a very capable processor with two high-performance Cortex-A73 core giving enough power to tame most task with ease. Comparing Note 8, it also takes the Infinity Display from the flagship along with the glass-metal built. Samsungs hands-down makes one of the best smartphone screens and the Super AMOLED panel on the Samsung Galaxy A8 Plus is mindblowing.

Coupled with 6GB RAM it seems a far better upgrade from the predecessors. Competing in the market with the most powerful sub $500 flasghip the OnePlus 5/5T it is tough to beat the performance. OnePlus 5 still stands out with its superior processing power and mammoth 8GB RAM. It is still one of the best performing devices without any signs of bowing down to any task. I use my OnePlus 5 rigorously running 20-25 apps in the background with dual window and graphics intensive games. It is already more than 6 months of my device and there are no signs of lag or stutter.

However, Samsung devices tend to slow down with time more specifically within months. On the contrary, coming from a tier 1 brand, A8 Plus has to be Samsung’s most affordable high-end smartphone, not the flagship though. I do have high hopes for the Samsung Galaxy A8 Plus because of its decent capabilities and very attractive pricing. It is also IP68 certified, which the OnePlus 5/5T is not.

Final Thoughts

In my opinion, this is one of the boldest moves from Samsung to come to the market with an online exclusive device. Samsung has stayed big in the game for its honest followers and brand value. In the market which is becoming price sensitive, this can be a game changer for Samsung. It will surely appeal to the users who still prefer a top tier brand compared to the Chinese brands like Xiaomi or OnePlus but want no compromise in the performance aspect.

Samsung Galaxy A8 Plus backIt used to be the case with Samsung to be charged premium for a seamless performance. The new Samsung Galaxy A8 Plus can change the notion, with a capable processor and 6GB of RAM at this price range. To make things very appealing the display is inherited from the flagships like Note 8. The Infinity Display is among the best smartphone displays on the market. It also supports the Samsung Pay, a feature which can be handy.

At this price with the display and build quality, it will surely rival the older metal unibody affordable flagships like the OnePlus 5/5T. In my honest opinion, Samsung Galaxy A8 Plus is far more appealing to the eye than the OnePlus 5/5T. It is more aesthetically pleasing and for the looks, I will always pick the A8 Plus. To keep the things competitive, the Samsung Galaxy A8 Plus packs decent specs with good cameras. It does make it a very good alternative to the OnePlus 5/5T at this price.
